Global Warming ~ Fact or Fiction
Take a look at this interesting article I was reading about the dangers of low oxygen levels in the oceans. Scientist are saying these low oxygen levels have increased over the years and show potential for damage to the Pacific Northwest Coast. The cause according to scientists is a result of Global Warming.
The coast off of Washington state and Oregon show increasing areas of almost complete lack of oxygen that have caused a noxious bacteria which endangers the fragile ecosystems of the ocean. In addition have left piles of Dungeness Crab bodies, killed off 25 year old sea stars and damaged many colonies of sea anemones.
Scientists also have recorded oxygen levels dropping year over year, 20 percent over the last 25 years for the coast off of Southern California. The article states "as ocean temperatures rise, the warmer water on the surface acts as a cap, which interferes with the natural circulation that normally allows deeper waters that are already oxygen-depleted to reach the surface. It's on the surface where ocean waters are recharged with oxygen from the air."
Are we causing irreversibe damage to the ocean? Is our daily living; gasses from our cars, pollution, agricultural run off, causing these drops in oxygen levels to the ocean? Read the article. What say you? Don't forget about World Water Day on March 22. Visit Surfrider Foundation for more information.

I saw the article on dead oxygen spots in the Northwest. I'm kinda on the fence -- or weathervane -- about the whole global warming thing.
With the debt this country is running up, the earthquakes around the world and not to mention all the homeless is this country doing without while we rebuild Hati for the 3rd time, I would think we go more to worry about then whether the polar bears will turn to brown bears or not.
Don't get me started on the unemployed while we have 30 million illegals taking our jobs, food, hospitial beds etc. Getting rid of them alone would solve the homeless and unemployment oh and healthcare.
I'm going with YES, Stephanie. We are making scary changes to our planet. While we can't instantly overhaul our lives, we can turn down the heat/AC a little, turn off lights, shut down computers, stop idling our vehicles, etc.
Stephanie..
Wow, what interesting information. I'll have to check out some of these links. I'm with Deena, though...We're doing some scary things to our planet. Thanks for making us think.
I think the global warming thing is a hoax...if you compare the winter that we have had this year.
The problem with Ginger's comment is that she is mistaking weather for climate. They are two vastly different phenomena. Weather is local, and climate involves many local weather systems, even covering counties, states, countries, and, yes, the entire Earth. Every global warming computer modeling program predicts increased snowstorms, thunderstorms, hurricanes, etc., even in places where they are not typical. Why? Because global warming puts more moisture in the atmosphere, and that moisture has to fall somewhere. In the winter it falls as more snow. It the summer it falls are more rain.
If you think about things logically, the last time there was an ice age was about 15,000 years ago or so. At that time there were about a million people on Earth. Now we have almost seven billion people on Earth. SEVEN BILLION PEOPLE! With millions and millions of cars, factories, oil wells, etc. Whomever could possibly deny the effects of global warming simply don't know how to think about facts logically. Just the warmth from seven billion bodies is probably enough to cause global warming! LOL
